The things every family asks us.
Do I need a referral from my dentist to see an orthodontist?
No. You can contact Kenora Smiles directly at 807-577-6453 to book a consultation. No referral is necessary.
How much does an orthodontic consultation cost?
Nothing. Every new patient consultation at Kenora Smiles is complimentary.
At what age should my child first see an orthodontist?
We recommend an orthodontic assessment around age 7. Many concerns are far easier to address while a child is still growing, and if no treatment is needed yet, we will simply monitor and let you know when the timing is right.
Do you offer clear aligners in Kenora?
Yes. Kenora Smiles offers clear aligner treatment for both teens and adults, and Dr. McFarlane has attained the highest level of education and experience available in clear aligner orthodontics.
Are traditional braces still a good option?
Absolutely. Braces remain a dependable, precise way to achieve straight teeth and a proper bite. Dr. McFarlane has treated children, teens and adults with braces since 1992.
Is Dr. McFarlane a certified specialist?
Yes. Dr. R. Bruce McFarlane is a board-certified orthodontist who earned his Masters Degree in Orthodontics from the University of Western Ontario in 1992, and he remains an active teacher and researcher in the field.
Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?
No. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and we treat many adults with both clear aligners and braces. A complimentary consultation is the easiest way to learn what is possible for your smile.
What is myofunctional therapy?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) retrains the tongue and facial muscles involved in breathing, swallowing and rest posture. These habits can affect how teeth develop and hold their position. Kellie, our hygienist and certified myofunctional therapist, delivers OMT programs at Kenora Smiles.
Can you help with jaw pain or TMJ problems?
Yes. Dr. McFarlane and team are highly experienced in diagnosing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and relieving symptoms like jaw pain, clicking and tension headaches.
Do you offer dental hygiene services too?
Yes. Kenora Smiles offers the full range of dental hygiene services in the same office as your orthodontic care.
Where is Kenora Smiles located?
Our renovated office is at 605 Fourth Street in Keewatin, Ontario, P0X 1C0, minutes from downtown Kenora, with free parking and great accessibility right at the door.
Do you offer Botox?
